Some New Features of the Global Dairy Industry

The dairy sector is emerging in China, but how it is linked with the rest of the economy is not well studied [1]. For the past eight decades, the dairy price has been closely tracking the overall price level, as shown in Figure 1. It suggests that the dairy industry is pro-cyclical with the whole economy. Moreover, there are two subtle qualitative features that can be drawn from the historical path.
